Through out Serbia and in many places in the former Yugoslavia they look on the days of communism with great nostalgia. The Yugoslav Confederation was a communist state that was not aligned with either the USSR or the democratic states in the west. It was a bridge between them and economically benefited from this position. Both the USSR and the western democracies sought to influence policy in Yugoslavia. The influx of monetary support and the diplomatic relations of the time allowed many people to freely travel. They invested the money into homes and automobiles. Today, due to the turmoil and economic downturn of the 80s and 90s, many of these automobiles have fallen into disrepair. The homes are in better condition but many are incomplete. The house pictured here has three levels, but only the bottom level is actually used. The upper two levels are only a shell and have no immediate plans of being finished.

The pictures really tell the story...the car, motorcycle, and so much around it is rusted, so has been there a long time. The
crops look good(corn?); the animal healthy, so that is very good. It's amazing that such a nice home is in bad need of repair and completion. Thanks for sharing.
